Citations filed after 10 injured in Silver Spring crash involving moving truck

Citations have been filed in a multi-vehicle crash that left 10 people injured in Silver Spring over the weekend.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — Citations have been filed in a multi-vehicle crash that left 10 people injured in Silver Spring over the weekend.

The Montgomery County Department of Police (MCPD) said that just before 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service personnel responded to the area of Columbia Pike and Fairland Road for a multiple-vehicle crash.

Police believe that a moving truck was going north on Columbia Pike just before Fairland Road when it hit 10 other vehicles that were stopped in traffic.

Photos from the scene of the crash showed a Tesla Cyber Truck that had been split in half.

MCPD said that 10 people, including 3 children, were taken to hospitals. All of the patients were expected to survive.

The moving truck and eight other cars were disabled in the crash and needed to be towed from the scene.

Police said that the moving truck’s driver, a man, stayed at the scene. He did not have any signs of alcohol or drug impairment.

MCPD gave the driver the following citations:

  • Negligent driving vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner endangering life, property and person
  • Failure to control vehicle speed on highway to avoid collision
  • Driving vehicle in excess of reasonable and prudent speed on highway
  • Driver of motor vehicle following vehicle closer than reasonable and prudent speed on highway
