CIAC boys soccer classes determined for the upcoming 2026 season

All four CIAC boys soccer champions from last season will get a chance to defend their titles this season.

Staples (Class LL), Simsbury (L), Tolland (M), Somers (S) all won state championships in 2025. Staples defeated Greenwich in Class LL, Simsbury defeated Wethersfield in L, Tolland won its second straight M title with a win over Stonington, and Somers topped Haddam-Killingworth.

Only two teams across the state have switched divisions, as both Notre Dame-West Haven and Xavier have moved up to Class LL. 

Class LL has 41 programs, including one co-op (Career Magnet and Hillhouse), with enrollments of at least 606 boys. The Class L division has 43 teams, with one co-op (University/Prince Tech), with enrollments between 392-605 boys.

Class M also has 43 teams, with enrollments for boys in the 264-391 range. There is one Class M co-op (SMSA/Capital Prep). Class S has the most numbers of teams with 49. Those programs can have enrollment up to 263 boys.

Gilbert of Class S is the only team in the state that has opted out of tournament eligibility. 

The regular season commences Sept. 8 and concludes Nov. 2. The CIAC tournament begins Nov. 4 and concludes Nov. 21-22.
