No RPG series has a reputation comparable to that of Final Fantasy, and no classic 16-BIT RPG is as legendary as Chrono Trigger. By all rights, these games deserve fame, and that's why it's so exciting that a new RPG looks to be bringing the best elements of both titles together.
Developed by Datadyne and published by Deck13, Forge of the Fae is a gorgeous, brand-new pixel RPG taking direct influence from Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger. It raised over $200,000 USD on Kickstarter, it's coming to Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, and it's currently free to play on Steam.

Forge of the Fae is a traditional turn-based RPG drawing heavy influence not just from other games in its genre, but Celtic mythology and steampunk tropes. Players control Fiora, a genius inventor who uncovers hidden secrets within unusual crystals. As a local miner's strike plays out, people begin to disappear, and only Fiora can get to the bottom of what's going on.

Forge of the Fae blends traditional turn-based combat with innovative new mechanics, like combo abilities and adrenaline surges. It also blends fantasy with technology the same way as Chrono Trigger, while its focus on crystals is reminiscent of the classic Final Fantasy titles.
There is currently no official release date for Forge of the Fae, with the Kickstarter campaign for the game having only concluded in May. However, a complete demo is currently available to play for absolutely free on Steam.
Thanks to the Kickstarter campaign hitting all of its stretch goals, it will be including: crafting mechanics, a Japanese translation, a fishing mini-game, ample side-quests, a weather system, and even more songs than originally planned from Yoshino Aoki. Aoki is serving as a guest composer, having previously worked on Breath of Fire III and IV, the Mega Man Battle Network series, and Final Fantasy 15.
Emi Evans will also be acting as a guest composer for Forge of the Fae. Her resume includes Nier Automata, Dark Souls, and Drakengard 3.
Forge of the Fae will be available at release on Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and Steam Deck.
