Departing Saturday Night Live star Chloe Fineman is providing more detail into her decision to leave the series after seven years on the show.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 38-year-old Fineman said she was ready to call it quits at SNL following the end of its 51st season on NBC. According to the comedian, another major catalyst for leaving was a project that caught her attention, leading her to begin exploring more opportunities outside of SNL.
“Seven years is kind of like the classic way [at SNL], and then like right as my contract was up, this amazing David E. Kelley opportunity came in like completely out of the blue," Fineman said. "I did a little chemistry read and it was off to the races; it just felt like a perfect time.”
“I’m really proud of everything, but it’s hard," Fineman continued. I’m genuinely really good friends with everybody, and I genuinely couldn’t love that job more. So it’s really bittersweet, but I’m gonna be in New York. I’m down the street. Maybe you’ll see me.”
Fineman went on to reveal that multiple cast members from the show have reached out to share their best wishes, specifically because of her recent birthday.
“Everyone’s like really reaching out. It’s the sweetest show. It’s a hard show, but the people — it’s because of hours and everything," she continued. But like it really is a family, and I’ve been crying like sweet tears.”
More recently, Fineman has been hard at work on Apple TV's The Dink, a new sports comedy series starring Ben Stiller, Jake Johnson, Mary Steenburgen, Ed Harris and Aaron Chen.
She also expressed her personal excitement at being able to watch SNL as an ordinary viewer again, as opposed to a cast member. "I’m really excited to like watch SNL as an audience member [in person], which I’ve never done," she said.
