The Kansas City Chiefs will make the transition from Missouri to Kansas come 2031. Thus concluding a 50+ year reign of playing at Arrowhead Stadium.

The fans got a glimpse of what the new stadium would look like when it opens, per Adam Schefter of ESPN. Overall, the new stadium will cost $3 billion. In addition to the stadium itself, a $300 million headquarters and practice facility will open in Olathe, Kansas.

It will be located in Wyandotte County near the Kansas Speedway.

The construction of the domed stadium will be a joint effort between Manica and HNTB. In addition to Chiefs’ games, the stadium will host concerts and other public events.

The reality of playing in a new stadium has been settling in for players like Travis Kelece ever since the announcement was made in December 2025. That is due to the illustrious history at Arrowhead Stadium since it opened in 1972.

It became the first stadium to add arrows to yard markers in 1973. Then, in 2010, it underwent a $375 million renovation that helped to rebuild the concourses and add a Hall of Honor.

Furthermore, Arrowhead Stadium is where the Chiefs’ dynasty emerged. It hosted five consecutive AFC Championship Games between 2018 and 2022.

It also recently hosted matches for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Come 2031, the new stadium could host the Men’s Rugby World Cup, as Kansas City is one of the 27 cities bidding. That same year, it could be a venue for the FIFA Women’s World Cup, for which North America is bidding.

It could also host indoor events such as the Final Four or the Super Bowl.
