Charlie Woods was doing his best to secure a match play position at the U.S. Junior Amateur. However, a spectator’s camera sound came at the wrong time and proved costly for the 17-year-old.
On Wednesday morning, a massive 14-for-2 playoff took place at Saucon Valley Country Club for the final two match play positions. Woods was in it.
Woods was eyeing a birdie on the first extra hole to advance but had found the rough. Trying to get out of it, the amateur was lining up a wedge shot, but that’s when the spectator clicked his camera.
“Really dude…” said Woods to the spectator, as reported by Brentley Romine of Golf Channel.
As Woods was about to hit his third shot at the par-5 first hole and was in the middle of his backswing, he visibly lost his focus due to an audible camera shutter.
As a result, Woods hit his wedge shot with way too much power into the rough, and the ball failed to reach the putting surface.
It was left at the fringe, and a birdie looked out of bounds for the 17-year-old.
That’s how it came to be, as he ended up carding a bogey-six. Out of the 14 players who were tied at 5-over par (T63), Eli Wessel and Hudson Kutchma secured the spots.
Three players had already made birdie on the first hole before Woods. Failing to do so, the 17-year-old’s hopes were crushed as he tied for 63rd place.

On Tuesday, Woods registered his best round at the U.S. Junior Amateur. However, that wasn’t exactly a smooth day for him.
At the par-3 11th hole, Woods was recorded screaming an expletive after a disappointing tee shot. He then proceeded to drop his club and kick it on the ground, as per Joe Kinsey of Fox News.
This entire turn of events went viral on social media, but at the Grace Course, the youngster showed commendable maturity.
At the par-4 13th, Woods shot an eagle-two that completely shifted the momentum of his round. He went on to register a level-par 70, his career-best U.S. Junior Amateur score.
