The Chicago Bulls have produced some of the greatest players in NBA history. That is a given to any basketball aficionado. With that often comes the question of what could have been.

In other words, what if so-and-so had played in the Windy City, particularly in the post-Jordan era?

Well, what if it were, say, Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James? Could they have been the next Jordan and Pippen?

According to Anthony, it was a consideration for him and James, per Podcast P with Paul George. He told George that originally both of them wanted to play for the New York Knicks together. However, Anthony said they both recognized the need for the Bulls.

“Me and Bron wanted it to be New York or Chicago. Chicago was in the fold. If we find a place, let it be Chicago.”

It was in 2014 when both were free agents. Anthony was still with the Knicks. Meanwhile, James was with the Miami Heat and had come off losing to the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals.

At the time, the Bulls had Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah, and Jimmy Butler and were coached by Tom Thibeadau.

Ultimately, Anthony decided to stay in New York due to front office concerns in Chicago. Then, James went back to the Cleveland Cavaliers after he was signed that summer.

Eventually, James would go on to win the NBA title with Cleveland in 2016. Anthony would play three more years with New York.

The Bulls got to the postseason in 2015, losing to James and the Cavs in the second round.
