Calls to disarm Hezbollah have grown louder since the group's war with Israel. But according to journalist and author Kim Ghattas, expecting the Lebanese Army to simply defeat Hezbollah is unrealistic.
In this clip from GZERO World with Ian Bremmer, Ghattas argues the real challenge is political. The Lebanese government must strengthen state institutions, curb Hezbollah's ability to operate independently, and prove to the country's Shia community that the state, not Hezbollah, can provide security and essential services.
That process won't happen overnight. Ghattas tells Ian Bremmer that diplomacy, international support, and gradual political change offer a more realistic path than another military confrontation, even if the road ahead remains long and uncertain.
