After a forgettable, but efficient-on-paper rookie season, Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams clearly didn't begin his career off on the right foot. He did take care of the football as a rookie, only throwing six interceptions, but there was a lot that needed to get better.
Fortunately, this team made the right move to hire Ben Johnson away from the Detroit Lions as their next head coach. Not only did the offense go from 28th in points scored to 9th, but Williams was more efficient across the board, and suddenly, he's looked at as one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL.
In the most important year of his football career thus far, it's clear that the Bears and Williams have a lot on the line as it pertains to the on-field action, but beyond that, the young passer has another major thing on the line, and it will surely serve as some huge motivation for 2026.

I guess this could be obvious for many, but with how the Bears' season went in 2025, most fans surely want the 2026 season to start to see if this team can actually make a Super Bowl run. In 2025, the Bears were able to advance into the Divisional Round, losing a close game against the Los Angeles Rams.
And notably, during the regular season, Williams led the NFL with six fourth quarter comebacks and also had six game-winning drives. His late-game heroics spilled into the playoffs, and it became clear rather quickly that Williams was and is a franchise quarterback.
And if the Bears make a similar jump in 2026 that they made in 2025, they could sincerely win the Super Bowl. Not only is this on the mind of Williams, as he could soon become an all-time great and begin to build his own legacy, but the generational wealth side of things also has to be on his mind.
Sure, when a quarterback on his rookie deal is preparing for a game in the middle of the season, a potential contract extension is probably not top of mind, but Williams, along with the rest of the 2024 NFL Draft's quarterback class, will be eligible for a deal.
According to Spotrac, Williams' market value is currently a four-year deal worth $206,751,384, which comes out to $51.7 million per season. That honestly feels on the low end right now. If Williams and the Bears win it all or even come close in 2026, I would not be shocked if he signed a deal worth $60 million per season.
Only Patrick Mahomes and Dak Prescott make at least $60 million per season, but another five quarterbacks make $55 million per season. Williams is in a nearly perfect situation, too, as the Bears franchise has had a long history of failing at the quarterback position, and it's not a stretch to think that if Williams' 2026 season is strong enough, he could then become the best quarterback in franchise history.

Simply put, it's all there in front of him. Not only is the desired success for 2026 the goal, but generational money awaits, and that has to be a major source of motivation.
