Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell have been the driving force of the Indiana Fever this season. Together, these two have led the team to a 16-10 record as they approach the upcoming WNBA All-Star break.
Mitchell, in particular, is having a career year in her eighth season with the Fever. The 5-foot-8 guard is averaging a career-high 23.3 points on 49.5% shooting, 1.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 32.5 minutes per contest. Mitchell is also knocking down 2.7 triples per game on a 42.3% clip.
In their last game, Mitchell went off for 33 points to lead Indiana to a convincing 108-88 home win over the New York Liberty.

Mitchell isn’t exactly the most outgoing player on the team, though. In fact, the 30-year-old is usually quick to deflect praise whenever she has a big game.
Clark knows this full well, and she believes that this is one of Mitchell’s most endearing qualities. A reporter asked Clark on Monday during practice about Mitchell being “very uncomfortable” when it comes to praise and accolades. Clark took the opportunity to praise her teammate,
“Yeah, I feel like she’s just somebody that puts her head down and works,” Clark said of Mitchell. “She was in this league for a while and probably never really got a lot of that. It’s just kind of her nature to continue to work, put her head down, and keep grinding. Now she’s able to play the best basketball of her career and do it in front of a lot of people.
“I feel like everybody across the league knows how talented she is. As her teammate, it makes it really fun to get to watch it up close every single day. She makes the game of basketball look really easy a lot of the time, and she obviously makes our lives a lot easier too when she’s able to perform like that and do it in such a consistent manner.
“So it’s really fun. But she’s just such a humble individual, very soft-spoken. She’s a very serious in-game player.”
Regardless of how Mitchell carries herself off the court, the fact remains that she’s a killer on it. She may have a meek disposition, but opponents will be remiss if they mistake her humility for weakness.
Mitchell and Clark will look to keep their foot on the gas for Indiana’s next game. Their final matchup before the mid-season break comes in the form of a home game against the Connecticut Sun on Wednesday.
