Boston Red Sox on the verge of franchise history after 14th straight win

The Boston Red Sox are on the brink of making franchise history when they face the Baltimore Orioles later on Tuesday evening.

Monday saw the Red Sox get their home stand underway with a narrow 6-5 victory over the Orioles at Fenway Park.

Another victory for the Red Sox has taken Chad Tracy’s side to a 51-48 record for the season.

The All-Star break has not done anything to slow down the Red Sox who have been on a heater over recent weeks to help chip away at the American League East.

Although the Tampa Bay Rays and New York Yankees still hold a cushion on the Red Sox, there are no teams more in-form than Boston right now.

Tuesday’s second game against the Orioles could see a new Red Sox franchise record set if the winning streak in Boston can continue for another night.

Victory over Baltimore on Monday extended the Red Sox’s winning streak to 14 games.

A win on Tuesday evening would see the Red Sox equal their franchise record of 15 games, as they ended Baltimore’s own winning run of seven games.

There have only ever been seven winning streaks of 15 or more games in MLB history.

The latest team to break the 15 consecutive wins record – since the 1961 expansion – was the St. Louis Cardinals, who won 17 games in a row back in 2021.

Having just pulled above the .500 mark, Boston are only one game behind the Cleveland Guardians who occupy the second wild card spot in the AL.

When the Boston Red Sox set their 15-game winning record

Having been around since 1901, it took the Red Sox until 1946 [April 25 – May 10] to set their franchise record of 15 games without defeat.

That very record has stood up until now, but this current Red Sox team could equal the record and write their name in the history books.

It was Caleb Durbin who secured victory on Monday night, with his home run breaking the 5-5 tie in the bottom of the eighth.

“I can’t imagine it being more electric [on Tuesday] than tonight, but it might be,” said Durbin.

“We’ll see. Tonight was awesome, though. I can’t speak for anyone else. We haven’t really talked about it but shoot yeah, I want to make history here.”
