Boruto sets up the ultimate sage mode user in the series

Naruto Officially Revives Jiraiya's Sage Mode In Its New Release
Boruto Sets Up The Ultimate Sage Mode User In The Series

Mitsuki could end up becoming the greatest Sage Mode user in the series.

Sage Mode is one of the most sought-after powers in the entire Naruto franchise. From the moment it was introduced, there has always been someone trying to learn it and use the power to further ambitions. In Naruto, the first person to show off the incredible power of the Sage Mode was none other than Jiraiya.

Since then, several other characters have tried to learn the Sage Mode for themselves, but only a handful of them have succeeded. One of the most surprising users of the Sage Mode was Mitsuki, who was introduced in Boruto: Naruto Next Generation.

Mitsuki Mastered The Snake Sage Mode

Mitsuki is one of the several characters introduced in Boruto: Naruto Next Generation. Unlike most young ninjas, Mitsuki was created by Orochimaru using his own DNA. The latter used him as a test subject for a long time until he was satisfied with the results. Following his success, Orochimaru granted Mitsuki his wish to go to the Hidden Leaf and study at the Academy. During his time at the Academy, Mitsuki took a strong interest in Boruto and decided to stick by his side to see how things unraveled. Orochimaru was also eager to monitor the progress of his offspring, whom he admitted had the potential to surpass the Legendary Sannin.

I'm absolutely sure that this is my will. —Mitsuki

When Mitsuki joined the Academy, he was undoubtedly the strongest among the group. Thanks to the genetic modifications, Mitsuki was a cut above the rest. Not only was he physically strong, but he was faster and had more endurance. However, his strongest asset was the Snake Sage Transformation. Whenever Mitsuki entered the Snake Sage Transformation, his head grew one horn, and his body exuded cyan chakra. Furthermore, the chakra formed snakes around Mitsuki's body, and they acted as protection against any incoming attacks. It is also worth mentioning that these snakes are powerful enough to break Ryu's iron sand, which had previously managed to hold down Code.

Mitsuki was able to improve his already powerful Sage Transformation further. Since he was also able to use the regular Sage Mode, he combined it with the Sage Transformation to bolster his overall physical abilities. However, this combination comes with a deadly drawback. If Mistuki used it for extended periods of time, he could end up damaging his internal organs. This damage is irreversible, and Mitsuki's own regeneration cannot undo it. The only way to survive is by undergoing surgery. With time, Mitsuki has mastered using both powers simultaneously, so he takes a lot less damage, allowing him to fight for prolonged periods.

How Strong Is Mitsuki's Sage Mode In Comparison To The Rest?

As previously stated, Mitsuki's Sage Mode is deadly, and it can bring down the strongest of fighters with ease, but how does it fare against the other Sage Modes in the franchise? First up is the Toad Sage Mode, which has the most known users in the story. The first known user of the Toad Sage Mode was Jiraiya. The member of the Legendary Sannin reverse summoned himself to Mount Myoboku, where he was taken in by the toads. Despite spending so much time learning the Sage Mode, Jiraiya couldn't perfect it. So, he was forced to use the imperfect version, but that too had its advantages. For instance, the two toads on his shoulders could attack the target with their own special jutsu. Fukasaku and Shima combined their efforts to launch a powerful vocal Genjutsu to incapacitate the target. They could also free Jiraiya from any Genjutsu. However, Jiraiya's version doesn't compare to Mitsuki's. In a fight between the two, Mitsuki would most likely emerge triumphant.

Next up is Perfect Toad Sage Mode. There have only been two users of this particular transformation in Naruto, and these are Minato and Naruto. Minato learned the Perfect Toad Sage Mode when he was still alive. However, he hadn't fully mastered it, so he refrained from using them. However, Naruto had no such problems. He mastered the transformation and often relied on it in battles. The Perfect Toad Sage Mode increases the user's physical abilities and allows them to mold chakra. However, these abilities are nowhere near the ones granted by Mitsuki's Sage Mode.

The Six Paths Sage Mode is by far the strongest Sage Mode in the series. It is powered by Six Paths chakra, and there is only one known character who can use it, and it's none other than Naruto Uzumaki. The protagonist received the power-up during the Fourth Great Ninja War, which effectively changed the fate of the world forever. The Six Paths Sage Mode significantly increases the strength, speed, and endurance of the user. Naruto's sensory abilities are also improved to the point where he can detect beings that exist in a completely different plane of existence. He can also levitate and fly towards his enemies at great speeds. Last but not least, Naruto is able to mold far greater amounts of chakra, allowing him to fight for longer periods. It's safe to say that without the power, Naruto would have never been able to fight the likes of Madara, Sasuke, and Kaguya.

Mitsuki Needs To Be Involved More In Boruto

Every Boruto fan agrees that the story has introduced too many powerful characters that have quite literally changed the way power scaling works. The author shoehorned several Otsutsuki, and almost all of them were stronger than any of the threats that Naruto faced in the entirety of the original series. For instance, even a nerfed Isshiki Otsutsuki was able to pummel Naruto and Sasuke. It's likely that both of them would have died if Kurama hadn't sacrificed himself using the Baryon Mode.

Considering the level of threats, it's nearly impossible for a character like Mitsuki to be involved more in the story. Even though Mitsuki's Sage Mode and Sage Transformation are impressive, they alone won't be sufficient for him to compete with the behemoths. Additionally, the author seems to have given Mitsuki a darker persona, which deviates from whom the ninja was originally supposed to be.

Fans can only hope that Ikemoto finds a way to include Mitsuki in the story without it feeling forced or unnatural. The same goes for the other characters in the story. Ikemoto has consistently made the mistake of shoving them to the side, which severely limits their role. Due to this reason, a lot of side characters have been wasted, and their chances of making an impact have fallen to nearly zero. Even Naruto and Sasuke have been removed from the spotlight altogether, which is not feasible at all, and it might ultimately end up hurting the popularity of the series.
