The St. Louis Blues today have announced a new partnership with the NHL to help produce regional broadcasts for the organization. The Blues turned heads a while back when they shifted from a split between television and radio announcers to solely the radio broadcast being used as part of the video broadcast.
Immediate impact for fans
At the moment, it doesn't seem there will be any drastic changes for fans. Local and regional broadcasts will be conducted in a similar manner to last season, but there are now opportunities for additional avenues for Blues fans: a direct-to-consumer streaming option is set to be announced at the start of the season. That will be subscription-based, and the pricing/availability will be revealed at a later date. For non-local fans, games will still be available through ESPN+.
Future possibilities?
The simulcast of the radio over the television broadcasts was a bit of an odd change when it happened, and has met with mixed reviews since. Perhaps this new deal will encourage the Blues to return to normalcy and hire a pair of television announcers. They could always bring back the announcers that were let go to make way for these changes but with a new general manager at the helm in Alex Steen, perhaps some fresh blood in the booth would be appropriate.
The good news is that the Blues ranked in the top five for local ratings among the 25 US-based teams last season, marking 13 consecutive years of that achievement. Despite a disappointing 2025-26, the Blues do indeed have a loyal fanbase.
