The grandfather who was seen in a horrific video being tossed by a bison at Yellowstone National Park has given an interview from his hospital bed, where he gave a straightforward recount of the events.
Carl Isom-McDaniel, 65, sustained a broken femur and shattered hip when the enormous bull bison attacked him at the Bridge Bay Campground in Wyoming.
One week later, he gave a no-nonsense interview about the attack from his hospital bed at Bozeman Health. "We saw the bison, and he was down. He wasn't showing aggression or anything like that,' the great-grandfather said. They move faster than you could ever imagine. It picked a target. That target happened to be me," he said.

The harrowing scene played out before shocked witnesses as the wild creature launched its assault, believed to be in rut during mating season.
First responders arrived quickly to treat the severely wounded grandfather. Medical personnel stabilized him on-site before transporting him to a local hospital for urgent surgery. Surgeons have since performed operations on his serious leg and hip trauma.
Isom-McDaniel said that his family just got done eating dinner before the attack, when he went on a walk with his grandson. He told his grandson to run, and the boy escaped unharmed, but Isom-McDaniel wasn't so lucky.
"He just kept coming, and he was more aggressive, and as soon as he got off that tree he launched me in the air," McDaniel recounted. "Even though I was on the ground, he could've stomped me, he could've gored me, he could've done anything."
The alarming incident occurred at the Bridge Bay Campground in Wyoming. Isom-McDaniel was walking along the road with his young grandson when the massive, hostile creature suddenly charged at them.
The intense encounter was filmed by Mike MacLeod, a former Army combat photographer who was camping nearby at the time. MacLeod stated that the bison had entered the campground appearing "angry, agitated, and charging anything and everything."
Before attacking Isom-McDaniel, the bull had already lunged toward a group of children taking photographs and aggressively charged at a white pickup truck passing by.
Witnesses reported that the grandfather and grandson had initially maintained what they considered a safe distance - roughly 100 yards away — far exceeding the National Park Service guideline.
As the animal grew more agitated, the pair took cover behind a stand of small pine trees.
Unfortunately, their hiding spot offered little protection. The charging beast plowed through the trees, continuing its pursuit of the two. Onlooker MacLeod recalled Isom-McDaniel performing a "perfect flip" before crashing hard onto his side.
Shocked bystanders ran toward the creature, yelling to scare it off, as emergency medical personnel raced to provide immediate care.
The unprovoked incident serves as a stark warning that bison mating season, often called the "rut," is currently active, running from July through September.
Throughout this timeframe, bulls experience elevated testosterone levels, making them extremely unpredictable and intensely protective of their territory. Specialists advise that should you come face-to-face with a bison, you should avert your gaze and calmly continue on your way.
