Billionaire investor says Bitcoin could hit $100,000 only if these things happen

Billionaire investor reveals key reasons behind Bitcoin's decline

Galaxy Digital CEO expects BTC to stay rangebound between $60,000 and $80,000 unless a perfect storm of catalysts lines up.

Mike Novogratz isn't predicting a Bitcoin rally. He's describing the conditions that would force one, and right now, none of them are fully in place.

The Galaxy Digital CEO appeared in a recent podcast this week and laid out his near-term framework for Bitcoin with unusual precision.

His base case is a trading range between $60,000 and $80,000 for the remainder of the year. Getting to six figures requires something he called a convergence of three specific developments.

The three catalysts

Novogratz was direct about what Bitcoin needs. "We would need the Clarity Act. We would need the Fed to cut rates. And we would need some buyer base to get reignited," he said.

The Clarity Act, currently stalled in Senate negotiations over ethics language and DeFi provisions, represents the regulatory unlock the market has been waiting for.

As Senator Cynthia Lummis previously noted, if the bill doesn't clear the Senate before August recess, the next realistic window may not open until 2030, a timeline that would keep institutional capital on the sidelines for considerably longer than Bitcoin bulls would like.

Where the retail money went

Novogratz acknowledged the market's current problem plainly. The speculative energy that once drove Bitcoin higher has migrated.

"Every young kid who used to buy Solana is buying Hynix or some memory company," he said, pointing to AI-adjacent stocks and same-day options as the new destination for fast money. Sports betting is absorbing another slice.

This echoes a similar point made by Michael Saylor, who has argued that the AI fundraising cycle is temporarily diverting capital away from Bitcoin, estimating the impact at 1% to 2% of demand.

The floor he's defending

Despite the caution, Novogratz held firm on downside. "I think Bitcoin probably holds $60,000. There's too many people who have bought into the Bitcoin story as its own store of value for it to go away," he said.

With U.S. national debt now above $39.5 trillion, he reiterated his long-term conviction: "This is why all portfolios still need some BTC. It really is inevitable."

Veteran trader Peter Brandt expects Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) to head below $50,000 before bottoming in early October, and then launch into a cycle that takes it above $250,000 by 2029. Why Brandt Sees a Bottom Below $50,000 First? Brandt made the call in an interview with Cointelegraph’s Trade Secrets, arguing that sentiment needs to get far worse before Bitcoin finds a real floor.
