70-year-old Gonzalo Torres Perez was critically injured after being hit by a car while riding his bike Tuesday morning in Rocky Mount. The accident happened around 7 a.m. in the 1800 block of Thomas A. Betts Parkway, police said.

Rocky Mount police said the accident happened around 7 a.m. in the 1800 block of Thomas A. Betts Parkway.

Police identified 70-year-old Gonzalo Torres Perez as the bicyclist who was hit. He was transported to UNC Health Nash and later airlifted to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville.

According to the Rocky Mount Police Department, the driver remained at the scene.

It is unclear if the driver will face any charges.

The crash is still under investigation.
