Rikki Skog’s death is being investigated as suspicious in nature, police say

Authorities in Minnesota are considering a woman’s death suspicious after her body was found in a ditch.
Rikki Skog, a 37-year-old mother to three girls, was found deceased in a ditch near Deer River, Minn. on Thursday, July 16, the Itasca County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
Skog was last seen on Wednesday, July 15, and police are investigating the death as suspicious in nature, according to the statement from the sheriff’s office.
Skog’s loved ones are asking for the public’s help with the investigation.
“This is absolutely horrendous an beyond sad,” wrote her cousin Derick Skog on Facebook. “No one deserves this.”
On her own social media, Rikki documented her journey into sobriety over the last few years. Last March, she shared a photo about being sober, and captioned it: “Winning at life.”
Rikki also shared how her loved ones, including her own teen daughter, rooted for her recovery and how her three daughters were her reason to keep fighting.
“I know time’s are hard right now, but I believe in you like nobody else ever will!! I love you mom!!!” her daughter wrote in a letter to Rikki in November 2024, which Rikki shared on her social media. “And since you don’t get the appraisal you deserve, I’m here to deliver it from everyone!!! I know you can beat this struggle you are going through and I know it’s scary. But once you take those first few steps in your recovery it will all start blossoming from there!!”
