Game Freak confirms Beast of Reincarnation will take 30 to 40 hours to beat.

When a studio as iconic as Game Freak announces a brand-new project, the entire gaming community instinctively expects eccentric creatures and the classic turn-based formula we’ve known for decades.

However, with Beast of Reincarnation, the team is stepping out of their Pokémon comfort zone to deliver a dark, fast-paced action-RPG with linear zone progression and distinct souls-like flair. It is a wildly bold departure for the developers, for sure, and before you dive headfirst into this mysterious world, it’s always great to know exactly how much time you’ll need to invest – and also what kind of mysteries you’ll find there.

Now, a batch of new previews has just surfaced with plenty of interesting information that basically shows everything we need to know (while remaining spoiler-free, of course) about the upcoming title.

A Tight, Action-Packed Adventure

For starters, the developers have revealed (thanks, IGN!) that wrapping up the main story of Beast of Reincarnation will take players roughly 30 to 40 hours.

For comparison, that actually puts its overall scope right in line with modern action hits like Stellar Blade, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Ghost of Yōtei, and Final Fantasy XVI. Interestingly enough, it also sits pretty close to the studio's own Pokémon games, which typically average around 30 hours – the recent Pokémon Legends: Z-A takes about 28 hours, while Pokémon Pokopia sits at around 36, according to HowLongToBeat.

Hitting that length, it surely strikes a sweet spot for the genre: long enough to offer a satisfying, narrative-heavy journey without overstaying its welcome with unnecessary filler.

The developers have revealed that wrapping up the main story of Beast of Reincarnation will take players roughly 30 to 40 hours.

Moving a bit further into the new details, while the game certainly draws inspiration from hard-hitting action titles, it seems that you don’t need to panic about getting stuck on a single boss for days on end. The developers have designed a much more generous parry window compared to the unforgiving tightness of Sekiro, for instance, making it noticeably more accessible than traditional, brutally punishing Souls titles. So, instead of agonizing over difficulty, the focus here is on snappy, responsive controls and pure combat fun that is easy to pick up yet rewarding to master.

In combat, the previews point out that action is relentlessly fast-paced, but it gives players clever tactical options. You can actually slow down time to execute command-based special moves alongside your companion Koo, a mechanic that feels reminiscent of the ATB menu system from Final Fantasy VII Remake. Combine that with the protagonist Emma, whose hair uniquely extends into tree roots to aid in traversal across giant open zones, and you get a dynamic gameplay loop packed with stylish encounters against towering, colossal bosses.

Between these intense battles, you'll also be resting at campfires to upgrade your skills and catch your breath – and that is where we get into my personal favorite details about this new title. Visually and atmospherically, previewers are saying that Beast of Reincarnation radiates heavy NieR: Automata vibes, wrapped in an intriguing fantasy setting that carries strong Princess Mononoke aesthetics mixed with thematic influences drawn straight from Blade Runner.

Having been in active development for roughly five to six years, that definitely represents a massive creative evolution for Game Freak, proving they can craft mature and visually striking worlds far removed from the cozy lanes of Paldea or Kanto. Fortunately, we won't have to wait much longer to experience this ambitious shift for ourselves. Beast of Reincarnation is officially launching on August 4th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
