Desiree Duckett, a producer who’s worked on The Bachelor franchise for a decade, is opening up about a terrifying medical scare she suffered while The Golden Bachelorette was filming in 2024. Duckett appeared on Rachel Recchia and Charity Lawson‘s Bachelor Happy Hour podcast and revealed she had a brain aneurysm during production.

“Essentially, my brain exploded,” Duckett shared. “It’s a brain bleed and it causes a stroke. Your brain shuts down, your body shuts down, your cognitive abilities shut [down], everything shuts down. I don’t know another way to put it. You’re dying, essentially.”

Some of Duckett’s fellow producers tended to her quickly and called 911. She was rushed into emergency surgery.

Duckett described the situation as “spooky,” adding, “It feels like what people say. It’s the worst pain of your life. The only way to explain it is it felt like someone took a bat to the inside of my head and you just, like, feel it explode.”

The producer spent a month in the ICU in Los Angeles and was briefly in a coma. She said the recovery was “long” and that she had to relearn how to walk and talk.

Duckett noted the support she got from those in Bachelor Nation, including Lawson and Recchia. “It was one of those rare moments where it was bigger than The Bachelor,” she continued. “It was, like, break the bubble at this point.”

The situation was especially scary for Duckett because “most people don’t survive and then those who do survive, most don’t make a full recovery.” She said when she woke up it meant so much to her to hear from those in The Bachelor franchise whom she’s impacted.

“That’s just an experience that I hope no one else ever has to have, but that is the best thing for me that came out of it,” Duckett shared. “It was really eye-opening and just made me feel so special and appreciated.”
