The average price for a gallon of gas in the U.S. rose above $4 on Tuesday, according to the American Automobile Association, as President Donald Trump’s war with Iran stretches into nearly its fifth month.
Gas prices rose by about 13 cents from the month prior, possibly the result of a failed ceasefire in the Middle East.
Inflation and the cost of living fell last month, with prices dropping 0.4% in June from May.
But, oil prices rose again this month after Trump ordered the U.S. to resume strikes on Iran and reinstate a blockade on the country in the Strait of Hormuz.
States along the West Coast saw higher gas prices compared to the rest of the country, with a reported cost of more than $5 for a gallon of gas in California and Washington, AAA data shows.
A record high for gas prices was recorded in June 2022, when a gallon was estimated to cost $5.01, according to AAA.
