Auburn senior defensive back Champ Anthony represented the Auburn Tigers' defense at the 2026 SEC Media Days and commented on his goals for the upcoming season.
Day two of the 2026 SEC Media Days opened with the Auburn Tigers taking the stage. Head coach Alex Golesh, quarterback Byrum Brown, kicker Alex McPherson and defensive back Champ Anthony. No one expected the senior defensive back to be at the event to represent the Tigers; instead, many had defensive All-SEC and All-American Xavier Atkins as the one sent to Tampa.
Anthony isn't a household name, at least like he should be, due to back-to-back broken legs in 2024 and 2025. Golesh and many others have pinned him as a vocal leader in the locker room. A former junior college transfer and zero-star recruit now sits in a room full of reporters at one of the biggest college media events.
He fully understands the journey that his football career and life have taken. The word grateful sums up who Anthony is as a man, and it was very clear why Golesh has sung his praises this offseason. While Auburn has goals of setting a standard and foundation for the future under Golesh, Anthony has his own personal ones that he touched on at the media event Tuesday, July 21.
"I want to finish the whole season healthy, play good, and just allow myself to be the best version of myself for the team," Anthony said. "Like I said, just complete the full season and just be the ball player I know I can be. We have a great medical staff around us, surrounding us, so I'm just leaning on them."
A piece, if healthy, can make a highlight reel of big hits in the secondary. Whatever the outcome, Anthony will find a way to support this team in the fall either on or off.
