Tallahassee theater group is presenting two fundraisers before heading to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August.

The Artist's Workshop is heading to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August for the biggest theater fringe festival in the world. The Tallahassee progressive theatrical company is taking two brand new shows to the event and is holding two fundraisers this week ahead of the trip.

First up, the Artist’s Workshop is bringing The Story Social to Midtown Reader, 1123 Thomasville Road, at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 23.

The Story Social will feature live theatrical readings from literary works to include "Project Hail Mary," "Fourth Wing," "Remarkably Bright Creatures," "Throne of Glass," and "Great Big Beautiful Life." Each reading will run 10-15 minutes with short breaks in between.

Included in the program will be a sneak peek of the original production "Bottom’s Dream," premiering at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland in August.

The event will include a silent auction on book-themed items and locally sourced goods. The suggested donation is $15.

Irish author and playwright Oscar Wilde is often credited with the saying, "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery."

Following that line of thinking, The Artist’s Workshop will be big time flattering New York City's Marie's Crisis piano bar for its second fundraiser when they stage "Artist's Crisis" at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 25, at the 926 Bar, 926 W. Tharpe Street in Tallahassee.

Artist's Crisis will offer a night of piano karaoke, laughter, and cheer to rival the famed West Village landmark. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the door or online at facebook.com.
