Ariana Grande fans are convinced she's back with her ex-boyfriend Ricky Alvarez, but a relationship expert has warned this could cause "chaos."
Rumors started swirling when Ariana changed the lyrics to her hit song Thank U, Next while performing in New York City earlier this month. On the original track, Ariana referenced her year-long romance with Ricky as she sang, "Wrote some songs about Ricky / Now I listen and laugh."
During her performance, however, she changed the lyrics to, "Wrote some songs about Ricky / We always find our way back." Fans flocked to social media after hearing the change to suggest the pair might be back together.

Despite the potential new love story, relationship expert Jordan Schieber told The Express US Ariana should proceed with caution.
He explained, "When it comes to getting back with an ex, the real question is whether it can work, and of course it can. But typically, going back to an ex signals real commitment, a sense of 'we're the ones for each other, we've looked around and thought about it and come back, and we're ready to double down.' Ariana doesn't seem to carry that energy."
Jordan pointed out, "Look at just the past few years: a marriage, a relationship with someone who was married, a massive PR scandal, and then the wider dating history and all the conversations about who she dates and why. It reads like someone who has a hard time being alone."
The expert admitted it is possible that Ariana and Ricky have a "genuine rekindling," but he suggested, "As tends to be the case with her public narrative, a lot of her choices point to deeper issues with solitude, identity, and trauma."
He continued, "And there's been real trauma there, including losing someone she loved, so this isn't about judgment. But the sheer chaos and drama of her romantic life is almost old Hollywood, glamorous and a little alien, in an Elizabeth Taylor sort of way."
Offering some advice to Ariana, Jordan urged her to "bring real seriousness and integrity" if she's serious about rekindling her romance with Ricky.
He explained, "To go all in and reunite in that way, especially if you're marriage-oriented or thinking long term, that should require a real soul reckoning, a real level of devotion."
Ariana first met Ricky when he joined her Honeymoon Tour crew in 2015, which led to a romantic relationship that lasted until July 2016.
After their split, Ariana dated Mac Miller. His fatal overdose in 2018 deeply affected Ariana and she paid tribute to him on Thank U, Next. She then had a whirlwind romance with Pete Davidson which lasted around five months.
The pair started dating in May 2018 and got engaged just weeks later, before calling their romance off that October. Ariana also briefly dated Mikey Foster before getting married to Dalton Gomez in 2021 after a year of dating.
However, Ariana filed for divorce from Dalton in September 2023 and it was finalized in March 2024.
Arina then dated her Wicked co-star Ethan Slater. They dated for almost three years before calling time on their relationship earlier this year.
