Anson Mount is sharing some insight into the upcoming fourth season of the Paramount+ series, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which premieres on July 23.
During an appearance on the July 22 episode of The View, Mount, who plays Captain Christopher Pike, mentioned a Season 4 episode wherein members of the U.S.S. Enterprise seemingly have turned into puppets. As fans of Star Trek: SNW are aware, a teaser trailer for Season 4 showed Pike in puppet form sitting in the Captain's chair.
Mount explained that the show's writers use different genres to explore the inner workings of the characters on Star Trek: SNW. He pointed to the Season 2 musical episode, "Subspace Rhapsody," that helped propel "a lot of emotional transition."
He then said that the implementation of puppets was something the cast had dared the writers to put into an episode.
"This came out of a dare, basically, that we made to the writers. And I never thought it would happen. And then it did," said Mount in the July 2026 interview.
Mount also shared that he was impressed by the puppets, which were made at Jim Henson's Creature Shop, and the puppeteers.
"To see these incredible puppetry artists come aboard and take our work and do what they did with it, it was really something to watch," said Mount while filming The View episode.
Rebecca Romijn and Celia Rose Gooding Shared That They Were Excited About the Puppets While Shooting Season 4
In a July 2026 interview with HeyUGuys, alongside Mount,Rebecca Romijn, who plays Una Chin-Riley, and Celia Rose Gooding, who plays Nyota Uhura, shared how they felt about the Season 4 puppets. Romijn suggested she wasn't initially sure how the writers were going to pull off a puppet episode of Star Trek. However, she assured that "somehow they managed to work it into the conceit within Star Trek."
"It does work," said Romijn during the HeyUGuys interview.
Romijn also said that she and her co-stars interacted with the puppeteers.
"The puppeteers were all there at the table read, and they recorded the table read, and we re-recorded our dialogue for the puppeteers so they could really get a handle on our characters. So yeah, we didn't get to spend a lot of time on set because it was a very different process from how we typically shoot, and they had us very busy with reshoots and preparing for the next episode," said Romijn.
In addition, she said she and her co-stars "got to meet the puppets in the episode that [they] were shooting prior." Both she and Gooding admitted that the puppets were "very distracting."
"They brought all of the puppets, and we all literally ran off," shared Romijn.
Romijn was also quick to clarify that the Star Trek: SNW stars "didn't get to take [their] puppets home."
"I wanted to so bad," said Gooding.
