Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's daughter is declaring her independence.
Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, the youngest daughter of the A-list actors and former spouses, filed a petition to change her last name in the Los Angeles County Superior Court on Monday, July 20, according to court documents obtained by USA TODAY.
Jolie and Pitt, who at the height of their Hollywood romance were known as "Brangelina," share six children: Maddox, 24; Pax, 22; Zahara, 21; Shiloh, 20; and 18-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox. Jolie, 51, filed for divorce in September 2016 following two years of marriage, and the pair finalized their split in December 2024 after being declared legally single in 2019.

Jolie-Pitt, whose full name is Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt, is asking the court to alter her surname to Jolie, removing Pitt from her name entirely, per Monday's filing. The actors' daughter said the reason for the name change was "personal."
A hearing in the case is scheduled for Nov. 2, according to online court records viewed by USA TODAY.
A source close to Pitt addressed Jolie-Pitt's petition in a statement to USA TODAY Wednesday, July 22.
"It is important to contextualize that Brad was awarded 50/50 custody of the children in 2021 following lengthy testimonies from witnesses, experts, therapists and other people who had been with the kids and around them," the source said.
USA TODAY has reached out to Vivienne Jolie-Pitt's attorney and representatives for Jolie and Pitt for comment.
Jolie-Pitt, who turned 18 on July 12, is the latest child of Jolie and Pitt to legally distance themselves from the "F1" actor. Prior to filing her petition, she signaled the name change in spring 2024 when her name appeared as Vivienne Jolie in the playbill credits for Jolie's Broadway show "The Outsiders."
In the last two years, several of the "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" stars' children have either removed Pitt's last name or filed court requests to do so. Jolie and Pitt's other daughter, Shiloh, had her name change petition granted in August 2024, allowing her to shorten her name to Shiloh Jolie, according to a filing reviewed by USA TODAY at the time.
Jolie and Pitt's eldest child, son Maddox, filed paperwork in April to officially change his name to Maddox Jolie, per documents obtained by USA TODAY. Similar to Jolie-Pitt, he cited the reason for the name change as "personal."
Jolie-Pitt's older sister Zahara, who filed to remove Pitt's last name in June, is expected to finalize her name change at an upcoming Sept. 28 hearing, according to court documents previously reviewed by USA TODAY.

In the decade since their divorce, Jolie and Pitt have been embroiled in a series of legal battles that have pulled back the curtain on their allegedly tumultuous family life. A dispute over Château Miraval, the French vineyard the couple once jointly owned, revealed Jolie's allegations of physical abuse against Pitt.
The "Maleficent" actress accused Pitt in an October 2022 filing of assaulting her and two of their children on a private flight from France to Los Angeles in 2016. In later court filings, Jolie contended Pitt's abuse of her started "long before" the alleged airplane incident, but this was the first time the children had been subjected to it.
Pitt denied the allegations, and after looking into the incident, the FBI declined to pursue an investigation or charges.
The Oscar-winning actor ultimately won joint custody of his children in 2021 following a legal tug-of-war, in which a judge accused Jolie of keeping the children from contacting their father, and lawyers for the actress alleged Pitt was not paying "meaningful" child support.
