Following a highly successful first season under Liam Coen, the Jacksonville Jaguars are looking to build upon that performance to take another good-sized step forward.
There are plenty of reasons to believe that they can accomplish that as well.
Trevor Lawrence thrived in Coen's offense during the second half of the season. There is a lot of playmaking potential around Lawrence, while the defense was one of the stingiest in football down the stretch in 2025. The continuity of being in the same scheme for a second offseason can provide a jumping-off point as well.
That said, as is the case with every team, there are pitfalls that the Jaguars will have to avoid. Eric Moody of ESPN highlighted a few obstacles that could be in Jacksonville's way this season.
He first noted that the Jaguars were 6-3 in one-score games last season and finished second in the NFL in takeaways. As Moody put it, those are "two statistical areas that tend to fluctuate from year to year." So replicating that success may not come easy.
Moody also mentions that the Jaguars will be facing a first-place schedule this season. There are some road-heavy stretches that Jacksonville will have to navigate as well.
That said, Moody's "best bet" when it comes to the Jaguars is that they will be a playoff team once again, although their win total may regress from last year.
"Lawrence should keep the offense competitive, and a favorable second-half schedule gives the Jaguars a chance to recover if they struggle early," Moody wrote. "Jacksonville's best path is a wild card berth rather than a division title, which is why I prefer backing the Jaguars to make the playoffs rather than betting their win total."
