One thing Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is missing since arriving in the Steel City is a star wide receiver like Davante Adams. He may have found one in former Alabama wide receiver Germie Bernard.
The rookie seems to be turning heads at practice and reminding others of a Rodgers favorite target from his Green Bay days: Davante Adams.
Bernard even wears the No. 5, but wanted to wear 17 in college because of Adams.
"Obviously I was five in college, but, he's [Jalen Ramsey] got five, so yeah we not touching that,” the rookie confessed to Jonathan Hankins on his Big Time Talk Podcast. “But they had 17 open, and one of my favorite receivers is Davante Adams. I've been watching his film for a long time.”
Last year with the Crimson Tide, Bernard was Mr. Clutch for Alabama.
In 2025, Bernard led Alabama's wide receivers with 64 catches for 862 receiving yards during his final season. His seven receiving touchdowns ranked second among Crimson Tide targets. Bama's offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb also implemented Bernard’s talents in other ways. He received 18 rushing attempts and recorded 101 rushing yards with two touchdowns.
Bernard was Ty Simpson's go-to guy last season in the clutch when the Crimson Tide needed him, as witnessed in the College Football Playoff game against Oklahoma when he made a spectacular catch to close out the deal for the Tide in their victory over the Sooners.
It all sounds familiar, doesn't it? A guy who is clutch in pressure situations, a team guy, and dependable on and off the field- all the things Davante Adams was in Green Bay when he played with Rodgers.
