Abby Elliott and Bill Kennedy are ending their marriage.
The Bear star, 39, filed for divorce from her producer husband, 41, after nearly a decade of marriage, according to court documents entered in Los Angeles on Friday, July 17, and obtained by PEOPLE. TMZ was first to report the news.
Elliott cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the pair’s split. She listed their date of separation as July 8.
The estranged couple tied the knot on Sept. 8, 2016, and they are parents to daughter Edith, 5, and son William, 3. Elliot is seeking joint legal and physical custody of their kids and spousal support.
She is also asking to terminate the court’s authority to award Kennedy spousal support and to have him pay her attorney’s fees.
Representatives for both Elliot and Kennedy did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
In December 2025, Elliott appeared with her children on the cover of Parents. She discussed her journey to parenthood with Kennedy after undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF).
“It wasn’t working. We never got pregnant naturally,” Elliott told the outlet. “So we went to a clinic, and they told us, ‘After all the tests, you guys have to go straight to IVF,’ and specifically ICSI, which is where sperm is directly injected into the egg.”
She added, “Because we had that information, that saved us a lot of time, blood, sweat, and tears.”

“When we found out we had embryos, we were so excited. We were ready to go through with the transfer,” Elliott, the daughter of Chris Elliott, also told the outlet. “It was a lot because IVF kind of became my full-time job at the time. I kind of let everything about it dictate my happiness.”
“You’re hopeful that it’s going to work out, especially when you hear the positive news, but you never know because you also hear stories of it not working out,” the Saturday Night Live alum continued.
