A New Leaf is accepting applications for the next class of its Hardesty Transition Academy, a two-year residential program designed to help adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities prepare for independent living and employment.
The academy, which opened in 2022, is preparing to welcome its fourth cohort of students this fall.
Building independent living skills
The Hardesty Transition Academy provides classroom instruction and hands-on learning to help students develop everyday life skills.
Participants complete courses covering topics such as money management, communication and living independently while living on campus throughout the program.
Preparing students for the workforce
Students also receive workforce training through both internal and external internships designed to prepare them for employment after graduation.
"They're going to come and do 80 different classes. Everything from money matters to living on your own to workforce skills. They're going to do internal internships and external internships… really getting them ready to set up for success for after graduation," Lindsey Stewart of A New Leaf said.
Who can apply?
Applicants must:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Have a high school diploma or GED.
- Be able to function without individual care.
