Red Hook Studios is returning to the original Darkest Dungeon with its first new DLC in over six years, revealing a surprise expansion called The Fire’s Edge that launches on August 18, 2026 for PlayStation, Switch, PC, and Mac. The announcement comes during the game’s 10th anniversary year, a milestone the team says it wants to celebrate alongside the community. An XBOX version has been confirmed, but is coming later.

The Fire’s Edge pulls two heroes from Darkest Dungeon II, with The Duelist and The Runaway joining the original game’s roster complete with their unique mechanics. The Runaway brings the sequel’s Burn combat mechanic along with her, leaning on fire and stealth when a fight breaks out, while The Duelist is a stern, precise fighter who Red Hook says has yet to lose to any challenger. The DLC also adds three new Districts for your Hamlet in the Academie Duello, Craftworks, and Archaeological Base Camp, plus new Trinkets built around mechanics like Trigger Uses, Quest Charges, and Progressive Trinkets. Red Hook Studios is teasing new writing, events, and more surprises to be revealed ahead of launch.

Darkest Dungeon began as a crowdfunded project that entered Early Access on Steam in February 2015, with the full version launching on PC on January 19, 2016. PlayStation 4 followed that September, while Switch and XBOX One versions arrived in 2018. Four DLC have been released to date, with The Shieldbreaker, The Crimson Court, and The Color of Madness hitting all platforms, and the most recent, The Butcher’s Circus, launching on PC back in 2020. The game is currently available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, XBOX One, XBOX Series X|S, Switch, iOS, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG.

Red Hook Studios has been developing The Fire’s Edge while continuing to support both Darkest Dungeon and Darkest Dungeon II, and the team plans to share more of the DLC’s features between now and its August 18 release.
