FRAMINGHAM, Mass. — A Massachusetts man accused of repeatedly harassing female state park employees and alarming trail users has been ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation after appearing in court on criminal harassment charges, The New York Post reported.

Hernan Villagran Lux, 29, of Framingham, was arrested Sunday evening by Massachusetts State Police on the Cochituate Rail Trail. Prosecutors said the charges stem from complaints filed by three female employees of the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), who reported a pattern of encounters over the past two months that they said became increasingly intimidating, according to Boston 25 News.

According to prosecutors, the women described repeated incidents in which Villagran Lux allegedly stared at them for prolonged periods, smiled in a manner they found unsettling and refused to leave the area after being asked multiple times. Court officials said the women told investigators the behavior escalated over time, leaving them fearful while performing their jobs.

Prosecutors also alleged Villagran Lux engaged in unusual behavior near the employees’ work area, including stripping down to his underwear, coating himself with cooking oil and exercising nearby. They said one employee also reported comments about her appearance that contributed to concerns for her safety. Villagran Lux has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The allegations drew widespread attention in communities surrounding Framingham, Natick and Wayland, where social media users said they recognized Villagran Lux because of his distinctive mime-style attire and makeup. Several women also reported encounters with someone matching his description on the Cochituate Rail Trail, saying they felt they were being approached or followed.

During Monday’s arraignment in Framingham District Court, Villagran Lux collapsed while prosecutors outlined the allegations against him. After receiving medical attention, court proceedings resumed, and a judge ordered him transferred to Bridgewater State Hospital for a mental health evaluation to determine whether he is competent to stand trial.

Authorities have not announced any additional charges. Court records indicate Villagran Lux’s next hearing is scheduled for early August following the competency evaluation.
