It’s a lot more than just golf.
LinkedIn just dropped its second annual Cities on the Rise report, its ranking of the 25 top U.S. metros that are up-and-coming as the nation’s fastest-growing spots for career growth and opportunities. Using LinkedIn workforce data, the 2026 report looked at emerging metropolitan areas that have experienced strong momentum in various segments, including hiring, job creation, and talent migration.
Using this information, LinkedIn has dubbed the legendary Augusta, Georgia, as the number one City on the Rise in 2026. Augusta, which is known as the home of the Masters Tournament, is also a fun and affordable place to live, with lots to offer when it comes to outdoor activities, nightlife, and dining. The median household income for Augusta is $55,485, and the average home listing price is $396,195.
According to LinkedIn’s data, it’s also the top spot for jobs and career growth. The reason for this is that Augusta is becoming one of the fastest-growing hubs for cybersecurity thanks to its booming medtech sector as well as its data center investment.
Beyond that, Augusta offers flexible work, with 26.5 percent of work availability being remote, and 3.5 percent being hybrid.
Other southern cities that made the list include Richmond, Virginia, at number two; North Port-Bradenton-Sarasota, Florida at number four; Charleston, South Carolina, at number six; Pensacola, Florida, at number seven; Austin, Texas, at number eight; Charlotte, North Carolina, at number 15; Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, at number 16; Little Rock, Arkansas, at number 20; Wilmington, North Carolina, at number 22; and Louisville, Kentucky, at number 23.
