The $1.50 Dollar Tree find so good I bought 4 (they’re nearly identical to Crate & Barrel)

There’s something about the perfect glassware that makes an ordinary drink feel a little more special.

There’s something about the perfect glassware that makes an ordinary drink feel a little more special.

Most of the drinks I make at home aren’t fancy. I’ll have the usual iced coffee while I answer emails, sparkling water in the afternoon and with dinner, or lemonade for the kids after they’ve spent the afternoon outside. Every now and then, I make an elevated drink, and, no matter the occasion or beverage, I choose the serving glass with care. There’s something about the perfect glassware that makes an ordinary drink feel a little more special.

That’s why I walked into Dollar Tree planning to buy two of these hefty Glass Sports Mugs, but walked out with four instead. It’s not just because they are only $1.50 each—though that certainly doesn’t hurt. The classic pub-style shape is reminiscent of Crate & Barrel’s Direction Hand-Blown Beer Mugs, which sell for nearly $20 apiece. While the Dollar Tree version isn’t an exact match, it captures the same look well enough and I know they’ll get used plenty of times all year long. Plus, I can’t justify paying that much more for the aesthetic I was after.

Dollar Tree Glass Sports Mugs With Handles

  • Price: $1.50 for a 16-ounce mug
  • Why I Love It: This mug delivers the timeless, pub-style look I want at a price that lets me actually use it every day without worrying about breaking it.

Why I Love Dollar Tree’s Glass Sports Mugs

Crate & Barrel’s mug is hand-blown from crystalline glass in Poland, which gives it a thinner rim, slightly more refined proportions, and the collection’s signature bubble suspended in the base. If you’re after those artisan details and can afford it, go for it.

This Dollar Tree mug is a dupe that don’t look like a budget find. It is machine-made and a little chunkier, but once it’s filled with a fizzy, cold beer or an ice cream float, those differences are easy to overlook. Just like the mugs you’d expect to see at a neighborhood brewery, it is thick glass, has a substantial base, a large, comfortable handle, and a simple, classic silhouette. There aren’t any logos, patterns, or novelty details—just clean lines that always fit the occasion.

At this stage of my life, I get more out of the little luxuries that I don’t have to babysit. The kids can use them, I can carry them out to the patio, and if one slips from a soapy hand, I’m out a dollar fifty, not $20. Even four cost less than a single Crate & Barrel mug.

How the Mugs Show up in My Life Almost Daily

I like keeping a couple chilled mugs in the freezer for ice-cold beer after a hot day. (After two straight weeks of 90°F weather, it’s been almost daily.) Aside from the obvious beer, these mugs are ideal for iced coffee, cold brew, and Arnold Palmers. The kids love them for lemonade. They’re also for root beer floats and homemade “milkshakes,” which in our house are usually Sarah Copeland’s chocolate smoothie from Every Day Is Saturday. (My kids have called it a milkshake since they could speak, and I have no plans to correct them.)

Come autumn, I will fill the mugs with mulled cider or chai lattes, and by winter, they’d be right at home on a hot cocoa bar.

After years of shopping for dupes, I’ve learned that you don’t have to spend a fortune to get great kitchen pieces. If you want to bring that tavern aesthetic into your own home without the luxe price tag, head to your nearest Dollar Store. Coming from a certified drinks girlie, your sips will be a whole lot better.
