With rising beef prices across the country, you may be looking for a brisket alternative on your next barbecue outing. Luckily for San Antonians, the newly crowned No. 1 barbecue joint in Texas for all things pork ribs is only an hour east of the Alamo City.
After seven weeks of fan voting, Schulze's Pit Room in Seguin has been named the inaugural champion of the 2026 Texas Barbecue People's Choice Award for the Best Pork Ribs in Texas. Schulze's beat out 63 other smokehouses to claim the title from the online magazine, defeating Mimsy's Craft Barbecue & Steakhouse in the championship round.
"This award feels incredibly humbling because it was chosen by the people," Schulze's Pit Room said to MySA. "It was wonderful to see the community rally behind us, from Seguin and Southwest Texas to everyone who voted for us near and far. Representing our region on a statewide stage has been a privilege. We want to give full credit to our entire team for growing the Schulze's Pit Room brand to where it is today; and showcasing our pork ribs. From every early morning shift, all the trim-prep work, to every guest greeted and served in our restaurant - this is their win. We are a small business with a big heart, and this award belongs to them."
Designed like a March Madness-style bracket, Schulze's Pit Room was the No. 4 seed in the Southwest Texas region. Its path to the championship saw the smokehouse defeat Midland's KD's Bar-B-Q, San Antonio's Double A Barbecue, Seguin's Burnt Bean Co., San Antonio's 2M Smokehouse and Cameron's Hecho En Texas Barbeque before defeating Mimsy's in the championship.
For anyone wanting to try the ribs themselves, Schulze's Pit Room sells St. Louis-style pork ribs at $28 per pound and the pork rib plate on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Find it: 1013 Schriewer St., Seguin, TX 78155
