The Rolling Stones have earned their 15th No. 1 album in the United Kingdom, drawing level with The Beatles on the Official Albums Chart's all-time list.
The band's 25th studio album, Foreign Tongues, debuted at the top of the chart dated July 17 with 38,016 chart units, according to Official Charts Company data. The total included 34,187 physical copies and 1,755 downloads, with the remainder coming from streaming-equivalent units.
The result gives Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood their third consecutive No. 1 studio album in the U.K., following Hackney Diamonds in 2023 and Blue & Lonesome in 2016.
Only Robbie Williams has earned more U.K. No. 1 albums as an individual act, with 16. The Rolling Stones and The Beatles are now tied at 15, while Taylor Swift follows with 14.
Rolling Stones Extend a Chart Run That Began in 1964
The milestone arrives more than 62 years after the Rolling Stones first topped the U.K. albums chart with their self-titled debut in April 1964.
Their total includes expanded reissues of Exile on Main St. and Goats Head Soup, which the Official Charts Company classified as separate No. 1 releases because of the volume of new material and formats included.
Foreign Tongues, released July 10, is the band's second studio album since the death of longtime drummer Charlie Watts in 2021. Watts appears posthumously on the record through material captured during one of his final recording sessions.
Produced by Andrew Watt, the 14-track album also features guest contributions from Paul McCartney, The Cure frontman Robert Smith, Steve Winwood and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith.
Jagger said some of the collaborations happened spontaneously when musicians visited the studio.
"Robert Smith came just to listen, and I said, 'Robert, you can't just listen, you've got to sing,'" Jagger told Reuters. "So he went and sang and played some guitar."
Will the Rolling Stones Tour in 2027?
The Rolling Stones have not announced a 2027 tour, but the band has made clear that it wants to perform the new material live.
Speaking alongside Wood on BBC Radio 2, Jagger said he was eager to return to the road but cautioned fans against expecting shows in 2026.
"I'd love to go on tour. I can't wait," Jagger said. "I don't think it's going to be this year. But hopefully it's going to be as soon as possible."
At the album's London launch, he gave a similar answer when asked about the band's live plans.
"We hope we go on tour," Jagger told Reuters. "Ronnie and I are really into that, so we hope we see everyone on the road."
Keith Richards has also indicated that performances in 2027 remain possible, although he has floated residency-style engagements as an alternative to a traditional tour. No dates, cities or venues have been confirmed.
The Rolling Stones last toured North America in 2024 behind Hackney Diamonds. For now, their return to No. 1 confirms that even without a new tour on the calendar, the band's commercial reach remains firmly intact more than six decades after its debut.
