On top of a red-hot 13-game win streak, the Boston Red Sox have received fortunate news in their depleted starting rotation.
Starting pitcher Ranger Suarez has been absent from the rotation since suffering a left groin strain in a July 5 start against the Los Angeles Angels. He was placed on the 15-day injured list retroactive to July 6.
The injury resulted in Suarez missing the All-Star Game while recovering from the setback. The first-year Red Sox pitcher was given a fortunate update ahead of Boston’s series against the Baltimore Orioles.
“Ranger Suarez will throw again today and do some fielding drills, and depending on how those go, the Red Sox will decide whether or not he’ll start tomorrow,” wrote Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald.
Ranger Suarez’s Impressive First Year in Boston
After spending his first eight major league seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies, Ranger Suarez took on free agency last offseason. Throughout his time in Philadelphia, Suarez earned one All-Star bid and a Fielding Bible Award in 2022.
He finished his Phillies tenure with a 53-37 record, 3.38 ERA, and a 1.27 WHIP.
Suarez, 30, elected to sign with the Boston Red Sox in free agency on a five-year, $130 million contract. The deal includes a $3 million signing bonus and a $35 million mutual option in 2031.
The lefty has continued his impressive momentum into his first year in Boston. Through 17 starts, Suarez carries a 4-3 record, 3.15 ERA, and a 1.16 WHIP in 91.1 innings pitched.
He was unable to participate in the 2026 MLB All-Star Game due to the groin sprain he suffered. However, he is eyeing a return as early as Tuesday against the Baltimore Orioles.
It comes at a convenient time for the Red Sox, who are catching their best stride so far in 2026.
Red Sox Carry an MLB-Best 13-Game Win Streak
Heading into Monday’s series against an AL East rival, the Baltimore Orioles, the Red Sox have been the hottest team in baseball. In a streak that began on July 3, Boston carries an MLB-best 13-game win streak.
Boston’s 13-game unbeaten streak is the longest of the 2026 MLB season so far, and is the second longest in franchise history. It surpassed the Chicago Cubs‘ 10 straight wins earlier this year.
The impressive streak includes four straight series sweeps over the Los Angeles Angels, Chicago White Sox, New York Mets, and Tampa Bay Rays.
Ranger Suarez was still healthy before the Red Sox started their win streak.
Boston’s momentum will be tested to begin this week. The Baltimore Orioles carry the second-best win streak in the MLB at seven games.
