Pampa Energia (PAM) said late Friday it made a final investment decision to build Latin America's largest granular urea production plant in Bahía Blanca, Argentina, a $2.7B facility planned to produce 2.1M tons/year of ammonia and urea that will monetize Vaca Muerta shale gas.

Pampa Energia (PAM) said the fertilizer business will create a new source of foreign currency inflows for Argentina, with the potential to create ~$1B in annual revenue through import substitution and increased exports; Brazil, which imports 7M-8M tons/year of urea, is expected to be the project’s primary market.

The company is already a major power generator and natural gas producer and has been making a push in shale oil.

Pampa Energia's (PAM) FID is another win for RIGI, Argentina President Milei's investor program featuring major tax breaks, which has attracted many applications in shale-drilling areas and in pipeline and processing infrastructure, sparking development in the Vaca Muerta shale play.

KBR (KBR) said Monday that its Purifier technology was selected for Pampa Energía’s (PAM) new ammonia-urea complex.

Under the deal terms, KBR (KBR) will provide technology licensing, basic engineering design, and proprietary equipment for the plant, which is expected to commence operations by year-end 2029.
