A man who fell off a jet ski Saturday on Lake St. Clair was rescued by Macomb County Sheriff's deputies, officials said.
Deputies were alerted by the U.S. Coast Guard that a jet ski passenger disappeared in Anchor Bay, they said.
A 19-year-old Macomb Township man who had been operating the jet ski called authorities to report his passenger, a 20-year-old man, had fallen off the machine and into the water, according to the sheriff's office. He told authorities that both of them were wearing life jackets.
Investigators said the jet ski's operator told them he and his passenger, also a Macomb Township resident, had departed from Brandenburg Park in Chesterfield Township and traveled to the Cabana Blue Lakefront Grill in Clay Township.
On their return to Brandenburg Park, they encountered rough water conditions, and the passenger came off the jet ski, according to police. He told authorities that he did not immediately realize his passenger had fallen off, they said.
Officials said the jet ski operator told them that he searched for his passenger but couldn't find him.
Deputies with the Marine Division of the sheriff's office searched the area, they said.
During the search, a boater approached the deputies' vessel and reported seeing someone floating in the water about a quarter mile off the shore, just north of Brandenburg Park. The boater brought the man aboard his vessel and then sailed to the deputies, officials said.
They said they then took the man to be evaluated in New Baltimore. He reported no injuries and declined further medical treatment, police said.
