Kaylee Hottle’s cause of death has been revealed.
The deaf actress, best known for her role as Jia in Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, died of multiple blunt force injuries, according to the Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Her death has been ruled an accident.
The U.S. Sun was the first to report on her cause of death.
Hottle’s father, Joshua Hottle, previously told TMZ that his daughter died following a car crash in Maryland on July 21.
The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office later confirmed that the actress was the sole fatality in the single-vehicle crash, which occurred after a 1995 Honda Accord, operated by a 19-year-old man, traveled off the right side of the two-lane roadway and struck a culvert. Hottle, one of two passengers, was pronounced deceased at a trauma center.
Excessive speed is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash, authorities said.
Hottle’s father went on Facebook live on July 21 to explain the circumstances of his daughter’s death using American Sign Language. At the time, he shared that he was flying from Texas to Maryland in order to claim her body. “I am taking a flight that I never would like to take,” he wrote in the caption.

The Texas School for the Deaf, where Hottle was a senior, also confirmed the news in a statement on social media. “It is with profound sadness that we share the heartbreaking news that one of our TSD seniors, Kaylee Hottle, tragically passed away yesterday in a car accident in Frederick, Maryland,” the school wrote on Facebook. “Our hearts are with Kaylee’s family, friends, classmates, and everyone who knew and loved her during this incredibly difficult time.”
“At this time, we have very limited information and ask that everyone respect the privacy of Kaylee’s family and refrain from sharing or speculating about the circumstances surrounding the accident,” the statement added.
Hottle made her feature film debut in 2021, when she appeared alongside Alexander Skarsgård, Millie Bobby Brown, Brian Tyree Henry, Eiza González and Rebecca Hall in Godzilla vs. Kong. Hottle played Jia, the orphan who forms a bond with King Kong through sign language. Jia is the adoptive daughter of Hall’s character Dr. Ilene Andrews, who takes her in after meeting her on Skull Island.
Hall, Henry, and Kaylee reprised their roles for 2024’s Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.

Beyond the Godzilla x Kong franchise, Kaylee has also appeared in a 2021 episode of Magnum P.I. In 2024, she received a nomination for the Saturn Awards’ Best Younger Performer in a Film award for her performance in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
In addition to her acting work, Kaylee was an athlete and competed on Texas School for the Deaf’s track and field team.
