Jockey Jose Valdivia Jr. is named on mounts for the first time since undergoing two shoulder surgeries this winter, the Daily Racing Form reports.

Valdivia, 51, told DRF earlier this year that the goal of the procedures was to improve mobility. The jockey has not ridden in a race since November and is scheduled to ride Cagey Burglar for trainer Ryan Bratcher on Thursday, July 23, at Del Mar

Valdivia, among the leading riders in Southern California in the 2000s, won only five of 71 races last year, and nine of 167 in 2024. In his three decades of riding, Valdivia has won over 2,000 races, including a triumph in the 2011 Belmont Stakes aboard Ruler on Ice.
