Germany slips to No. 12 in FIFA rankings, which is still probably too high

Germany has slipped to 12th in the latest FIFA Men’s World Rankings, which could actually be too high considering how the team performed at the World Cup.

Germany, of course, was eliminated in the Round of 32.

For a nation that has won four World Cups and three European Championships, being outside the top 10 is unfamiliar territory. But this current generation still has plenty to build on.

With the hiring of Jürgen Klopp imminent, Germany will have an opportunity to climb back among the world’s elite. The challenge now is turning potential into consistent results against the very best after a disappointing 2026 World Cup campaign. Can Klopp find a way to solve the problems existing within German football?
