BEARDSTOWN — Two Beardstown organizations will offer a free showing Friday of the movie "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial."
The screening will start at dusk — around 8 p.m. — at Art Zeeck Park, according to organizers Beardstown CONNECT and First Christian Church of Beardstown.
The movie, which is rated PG, was directed by Steven Spielberg and stars a young Drew Barrymore alongside lead Henry Thomas. It received nine Academy Award nominations, including best picture and best director, and won Oscars for best original score, best visual effects, best sound, and best sound editing. It follows the young alien E.T. as a California boy and his friends try to help the extraterrestrial being return home.
The film was added in 1994 to the U.S. National Film Registry at the Library of Congress as a "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant" movie.
Free popcorn, candy and drinks will be available for those attending the family-friendly event. Participants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating.
