Josh Berry's 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season has been tumultuous, and it took a turn for the worse Sunday at North Wilkesboro Speedway.
Berry finished 36th after being involved in a Lap 199 crash. He's 33rd of 35 full-time Cup drivers and is currently hunting for a ride for next season after the news broke in June that Jesse Love would be taking over his seat with the Wood Brothers in 2027.
Dale Earnhardt Jr., who owned cars that Berry drove to numerous victories, including five in the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series, feels for the Hendersonville, Tennessee, native, especially given that there aren't many Cup rides available for next season.

"They had this really solid first year," Earnhardt Jr. said Tuesday of the Berry-WBR pairing on the Dale Jr. Download. "He wins a race at Vegas. Looked like it was going to be positive. I do not know what has happened. I really don't. I think the world of the Wood Brothers. But I don't know what has happened."
"It's unfortunate, because I don't know where this goes for Josh. The landscape right now is crappy for guys like him. I don't know what opportunities even exist. It's heartbreaking, because he has worked his a-s off to get to this point, and I think he's proven good enough."
Berry still has 15 Cup races left in the 2026 season to prove he's worthy of a Cup Series opportunity next season, but he can't waste a single one. A win over the next 15 events would go a long way in bettering his future.
