Fox News chief political analyst Brit Hume delivered a grim assessment for Republicans ahead of the 2026 midterm elections after the network unveiled its latest polling.
“The truth is, there’s not much good news for Republicans in this whole poll we did,” Hume said on Wednesday’s broadcast “Special Report with Bret Baier,” citing a new Fox News survey that found just 24% of voters rated the economy as “excellent” or “good,” while 76% described it as “fair” or “poor.”

“You know, underwater on the economy,” Hume pointed out. “Underwater on affordability. Those two issues are front and center for sure.”
The survey also found Democrats leading Republicans by 9 percentage points on which party voters trust more to handle the economy.
Respondents likewise said Democrats are better equipped to tackle income inequality and inflation, health care and foreign policy.
On immigration, Republicans have lost the 8-point advantage they held in April, with Democrats now holding a narrow 1-point lead.
