It has been 15 years since Buddy Miller released a solo record, and the wait now has an end date.
The Americana great will put out his self-titled album Buddy Miller on Sept. 11 via New West Records, his first solo LP in 15 years. He announced the news on Tuesday, July 21, the same day the album track "Don't Look Back," premiered.
The 12-song set was produced by Miller and follows In the Throes, his acclaimed 2023 album with his wife, Julie Miller. He has said the plan was to make a country soul record, before more of Julie's songs found their way onto it.
A Guest List Packed With Legends
Miller filled the album with friends. The tracklist features Emmylou Harris, The War and Treaty, Lee Ann Womack, Shawn Colvin, Ashley Monroe, Elizabeth Cook, Jim Lauderdale, Dan Penn, and Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams, with The McCrary Sisters appearing throughout. "Don't Look Back" pairs Miller with Penn, the soul songwriter behind classics cut by Aretha Franklin and Otis Redding. The two met in 1994 over a tape machine Miller had listed in the PennySaver. "He passed on the Studer, but I gained a hero as a friend," Miller said.

Four Decades of Americana
Miller is a Grammy winner and one of Nashville's most respected players, named "Artist of the Decade" by No Depression. He has worked with Willie Nelson, Linda Ronstadt, Robert Plant, and Elvis Costello, served as executive music producer on ABC's Nashville, and co-hosts The Buddy & Jim Show on SiriusXM with Lauderdale.
