A crash involving a bus on the New York State Thruway in Ulster County injured nearly a dozen people Tuesday.
It happened at around 7:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes in Plattekill. The road was partially closed until around 3 p.m. The New York State Police was evaluating whether weather played a role in the rollover.
Police said 23 passengers were on board the Wanda Coach bus. Everett Erichsen, Ulster County's commissioner of Emergency Services, said 11 were taken to local hospitals, adding six suffered moderate injuries.
Multiple good Samaritans, including some uniformed military members, stopped to help passengers at the scene.
Only a handful of passengers got on a replacement bus sent to finish the journey to New York City.
Photos from the scene showed the bus on its side.
Officially, it's unclear what led up to the crash, but one passenger who provided images to CBS News New York said the bus was sideswiped by a truck.
"It pushed us off the highway. People were screaming. People were injured -- bleeding, bruises. I'm lucky to be alive, period," the 43-year-old from Brooklyn said.
State police said high-tech equipment was being used as part of the accident reconstruction efforts, adding a full investigation is underway.
