The San Francisco 49ers are getting back on the practice field this weekend.
Kyle Shanahan’s team is holding its first training camp practice on Sunday, starting a string of non-padded practices while the team goes through its mandatory five-day acclimation period before pads come on.
The 49ers earlier this month announced tickets would be available starting July 15 for 11 open training camp practices - and every practice sold out that same day. The team is expecting hundreds of fans for each session while exact numbers will vary based on the different charitable groups in attendance.
The team will host open practices this coming Sunday and Monday, July 31, Aug. 1, Aug. 3, Aug. 6, Aug. 8, Aug. 10, Aug. 11, Aug. 15 and Aug. 16. The practices are slated to start around 10:15 each morning.
The session Aug. 11 will be a joint practice with the Tennessee Titans and head coach Robert Saleh, the 49ers’ former defensive coordinator, two days before their preseason game Aug. 13 at Levi’s Stadium.
San Francisco will travel for a joint practice session Aug. 18 with the Los Angeles Chargers and former coach Jim Harbaugh before their game two nights later at SoFi Stadium.
The Aug. 6 practice will mark a celebration of “87 Day” in honor of former receiver Dwight Clark to raise awareness for ALS. Clark, known for making “The Catch” to win the 1981 NFC title game against the Dallas Cowboys, passed away from ALS in 2018 at 61.
The entire practice schedule has not been announced, and it’s likely the 49ers will have practices where fans aren’t permitted. It’s also expected training camp will have a unique schedule this year given the team’s season-opening trip to Australia for their game against the Rams on Sept. 10.
