27 things that were normal 30 years ago but feel alien to Gen Z today

It's wild how much has changed in the last 30 years. Recently, Reddit user RequirementIcy6534 asked people to share things that were normal in the '90s that would seem "alien" to kids today, and the responses might make your bones crumble to dust...

1."Calling a friend's house and having to talk to their parents first."

2."Using a phone book."

3."Memorizing your friends' phone numbers. I still know my best friend's landline from 1996, but I don't know my own wife's cell."

4."Waiting a week to see the next episode of a show. No bingeing. No spoilers. We suffered together."

5."Having to manually tune in the TV stations."

6."Never being able to skip a single ad."

7."VHS tapes and rewinding them before watching."

8."Trying to watch scrambled **** and being like 'did you just see that boob?! I swear I could even make out a ******!'"

9."Going to the library to look up information instead of using a smartphone."

10."Paying per minute for dial-up internet."

11."The groaning and screams of a modem as we attempted to log on the internet."

12."Having to drop off a picture cartridge at a photo developer and then wait up to two weeks to get the photos back, just to find out they were blurry or your thumb was in the way."

13."Memorizing how to get to many places. Listening to the radio to hear traffic reports."

14."Video games coming with instruction manuals, and you would actually need to read them because the game wouldn't have a tutorial."

15."Chocolate cigarettes and candy cigarettes."

16."Mom making sure I had a quarter with me to call home from a payphone."

17."We used to just make a collect call home, and when it told us to state our name, we just said 'Hey it’s me come pick us up at the food court entrance to the mall, thanks bye.'"

18."Not being able to tell people you were running late, or ask where a friend was if they were late."

19."Being completely unreachable once you left the house. Just gone. Your mom had no idea where you were for like eight hours, and nobody panicked about it."

20."Rolling up the car window with the handle."

21."My husband carried a pager so I could let my family know when I went into labor! You could hire them."

22."Listening to the radio, and having a blank cassette tape in your boombox, ready to hit record when the DJ stops talking so you could save your favorite song."

23."Fax machines."

24."Drinking hot, metallic-tasting water from the hose outside."

25."Ringing someone's doorbell to see if they were home and wanted to come play with you."

26."Smoking areas, especially on planes."
