Overview

The 2027 Dodge Charger is a muscle car in 4-door and 2-door coupe guises, and is the gas version of the Charger Daytona that arrived for MY2024. It joined the EV lineup last year, so is unchanged for MY2027, still packing the same 420- and 550-hp versions of the twin-turbo Hurricane inline-six engine at the same $50K starting price. All trims share the same 8-speed automatic transmission and AWD system with a RWD mode.

What's New for 2027

The 2026 Charger carries over unchanged into the new model year, except for a new limited-availability Purple Haze paint color (top image and below) to celebrate the Charger’s 60th anniversary. There have been rumors of the Hemi V8 returning to the Charger lineup this year, but so far, nothing has materialized. Don’t count it out for later in the model year. The 2027 Dodge Charger’s price stays completely unchanged from 2026 and still starts at $49,995.

Exterior

The Charger’s retro styling represents a modernized interpretation of the previous generation, with a chiseled nose and tail and a long hood. The front features LED headlights and an illuminated Fratzog badge. The sedan-like profile hides a hatch with a liftgate, which is powered on Plus trims. The R/T’s wheels measure 18 inches, but they can be upgraded to the 20s you get on the Scat Pack; the latter also gets a black deck spoiler and dual exhausts.

Interior

All trims get a 12.3-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a G-meter, and a 6-speaker audio system, which is upgraded to a 9-speaker Alpine setup in Plus and Scat Pack trims. Plus trims also get navigation, a wireless charging pad, and access to 18-speaker audio. All trims get a digital gauge cluster - 10.25 inches on base trims and 16.0 inches on Plus trims. Cloth gives way to leatherette on the upper trims, which also get ventilated front seats and heated rear seats. Up to five can be accommodated in the roomy cabin.

Price Range and Best Value Trim

There is no price increase for the 2027 Charger:

The $52K 4-door R/T offers maximum practicality, 420 hp, AWD, and all the driver assists for $5K less than the Scat Pack, making it the best value. We’d add the Driver Convenience Group for around $1,500 to get the front and rear parking sensors, auto-dimming rearview mirror, heated steering wheel and front seats, 9-speaker Alpine audio, and active noise cancellation.

Performance and 0-60 MPH

With the 420-hp engine, the Charger’s 0-60 sprint takes just 4.6 seconds, despite weighing close to 5,000 pounds. The 550-hp variants dispatch the run in 3.9 seconds. The 8-speed auto is always smooth and hooks the right gear on cue.

The 420-hp engine produces full power on regular gas, but the 550-hp engine loses some power unless premium fuel is used.

Verdict

The Charger does what it says on the tin, and is the only traditionally American muscle car left on the market, since its closest rivals are sports cars like the Mustang, Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, and BMW M3/M4. The base car packs a wholesome 420 hp and is best enjoyed in 4-door guise to get maximum practicality. It makes for a potent, high-value muscle car that currently stands alone in its class, and may soon be joined by a few V8 siblings.
