20 discontinued food and drink items we wish were still around today

Every year, some of our favorite food items are discontinued and removed from the grocery store shelves and drive-thru menus before we can properly say goodbye. So, check out 20 nostalgic food and drink items below that we miss more and more every day.

McDonald's Snack Wrap

McDonald's Snack Wraps were the perfect grab-and-go item. Customers could get their wrap with either crispy or grilled chicken, but despite the love, McDonald's shelved the item after employees said the product was too complicated to make.

Altoids Sours

Altoids Sours was the perfect product to try if you wanted to change things up from time to time. But the hype around these candies wouldn't last long. They were discontinued in 2010, but we wouldn't complain if they made a comeback.

Jell-O Pudding Pops

Jell-O pudding was a staple for most kids growing up, so when the company launched its frozen pops, we thought they hit a home run. However, they axed the creation later due to low sales.

Banana Nut Cheerios

Limited Edition shook the table with the creation of Banana Nut Cheerios. It was the perfect alternative for cereal lovers who felt the original Honey Nut flavor was just too bland. However, the goodness wouldn't last. The company pulled the product in 2016.

Dunkaroos

Dunkaroos were a needed everyday snack growing up. The cookies mixed with icing were perfect for dessert after school lunch, or once you got inside from getting off the bus. However, we had to say goodbye to these when the company stopped production in 2012.

Hershey's Bites

Everybody loves a good Hersey's bar, so it's understandable why their mini bites — which came in flavors like Cookies n' Cream, Heath bar, Reese's, and more — were a smash hit among consumers. Despite the popularity, though, it's reported that the company pulled the item because they were a "choking" hazard.

Jolly Rancher Wild Berry Mix

Jolly Rancher is a beloved hard candy that comes in original flavors, including watermelon and apple. Later, the company expanded its line, creating flavor packs like the wild berry mix. The new sweets didn't last long, though. The candy was pulled from the shelves in 2012.

Cheez Balls

Planters Cheez Balls were a classic snack in the '90s and early 2000s. However, they were discontinued in 2006. Consumers can buy generic brands in stores, but as the saying goes, this tasty item is often imitated but never duplicated.

Shark Bites Fruit Snacks

General Mills' Shark Bite Fruit Snacks were tasty assorted gummies, but in 2016, GM eliminated artificial flavors and colors from their products, which meant the Shark Bites had to go.

Squeezit

Squeezits were the perfect fruit juice beverage. The product came in plastic bottles that consumers had to squeeze to get the juice out. The original flavors included Grumpy Grape, Silly Billy Strawberry, Rockin' Red Puncher, and Mean Green Puncher. They were discontinued in the early 2000s and made brief comebacks; however, their return never lasted more than a few years.

Yogos

Yogos wasn't your typical fruit snack. They were bite-sized pieces of goodness covered in yogurt, which made for the best treat whenever you needed something quick and light.

Fruitopia

In the late '90s and early 2000s, your meal wouldn't have been complete without a bottle of Fruitopia. Although it was a popular choice during the years, Coca-Cola discontinued the item after sales fell off in 2003.

Fruit Loops Straws

Fruit Loops Straws were created to be a fun and tasty way to change the flavor of your milk and spruce up the way you eat your cereal. However, General Mills ended production on this product in 2009 for reasons unknown. What a shame, too, because I'd stock up on these like nobody's business if they made a comeback.

Starburst Hard Candy

Starburst occasionally adds new items to its line of treats, including the throwback hard candies, which are the same as the original product, just in crunchy form. Unfortunately, though, the company discontinued this item in the early 2000s after consumers decided to get their hard candy fix some other way.

McDonald's McSalad Shakers

I'm unsure how healthy these salad shakers actually were, but McDonald's struck gold with the creation because these mini cups, which came with grilled chicken, ham, turkey, egg, and cheese, were the talk of the town.

Waffle Taco

Taco Bell had to jump on the breakfast train after seeing McDonald's and Burger King slay the early morning rush with their Egg McMuffin and the Croissan'wich with their creation, the Waffle Taco. The product featured a crispy waffle folded like a taco shell with sausage or bacon, eggs, and cheese. It also came with a side of syrup!

KFC's Double Down

I can't lie: Looking at KFC's Double Down today, it's an absolute out-of-pocket creation. However, KFC fans loved the sandwich, which had a piece of cheese and a slice of bacon slapped between two crispy chicken patties. If it returned to the drive-thru today, it might be one item worth trying.

Domino's Oreo Pizza

Alright. Domino's Oreo pizza isn't necessarily a pizza, but it's one heck of a dessert that should still be on the menu today. However, the company discontinued the item after customers reported it was too sugary.

Wendy's Frescata sandwiches

It's hard to imagine Wendy's selling deli-meat sandwiches, but the fast-food giant dabbled in that world for a brief moment in the early 2000s. The Frescata sandwiches featured a couple of different variations, including black forest ham and Swiss and roasted turkey and Swiss. Unfortunately, the product was axed in 2007 due to low sales.

Stick to frozen, never-fresh burgers, Wendy's!

Oreo Cakesters

These pastry snacks were double the size of regular Oreos, featured a soft texture, and stuffed with creme filling. They were a staple in my childhood and a go-to among my friends, so I know consumers would be more than happy to see this item back on grocery store shelves.
